Muscle Cars, Supercars, Hypercars & GTs: What’s Actually the Difference?
Because calling every fast car a “sports car” is how arguments with your dad begin.
You know when you’re looking at a car magazine and your dad jumps in and says “look at that nice sports car” but it is actually a Mclaren 720s and you just want to scream because he doesn’t get it. Yeah me too.
If you spend more time memorizing 0-60 times rather than doing your math homework this is for you. Here is the actual, real-world difference between the stuff that’s just “fast” and the stuff that actually matters.
Numero Uno-Muscle cars: The loudest cars on the face of the planet
What they’re like: They smell like burnt tires and sound like a T-Rex having a bad day.
Muscle cars are basically just a giant engine with some seats bolted on. They aren’t meant for fancy European racing; they’re meant for winning a drag race against your neighbor. If you try to take a sharp turn in one, you’ll probably end up in a ditch, but you’ll look awesome doing it.
The real meaning is: I want to go really fast in a straight line and make my neighbors hate me
Defining traits are a huge V8 engine in the front, rear-wheel drive ,and a hood so long you can barely see over it.
Examples are the Ford mustang and the Dodge challenger.
Number 2: Super cars your bedroom poster classics
How they’re like: They look like they’re going 100 mph even when they’re parked.
Supercars are the cars that make you drop your bike and run to the sidewalk when you see one. They have engines in the middle (where the back seats should be) because that makes them better at corners. They’re super low to the ground, so you’ll definitely scrape the front if you go over a speed bump.
The real meaning is: I want to drive a spaceship around a track faster than anything else on the road.
Defining traits are a Mid engine layout, doors that open like wings and a price tag that’s approximately 10,000 lego sets
Examples are the Lamborghini Huracan and the Ferrari F8 tributo
We are at Number 3, read on
Are these even real? I think we all wonder when we stare at a hypercar on our computer.
What they’re like: When a supercar isn’t fast enough for a billionaire.
Hypercars are basically science experiments. They have like 1,500 horsepower and can go 300 mph, which is faster than a small airplane. They only make like ten of them, and you have to be a secret king or a movie star to even get on the list to buy one.
The real meaning is: My car costs more than your entire school and it has more computers than NASA.
Defining Traits are over 1,000 horsepower, made out of carbon fiber (the stuff they use in space), and wings that move around while you drive.
Examples are the Koenigsegg Jesko and the Bugatti Chiron
Number 4 hang in there if you think reading this is hard imagine the poor schmuck writing all of this down. I feel bad for him, oh wait that’s me.
Grand tourers or(GT) The fancy fast cars.
What they’re like: a tuxedo with a jet engine attached.
A lot of people think these are supercars, but they aren’t. Supercars are for the track, but GT cars are for driving for ten hours without your back hurting. They have leather
everywhere and usually have two tiny seats in the back that only a dog or a toddler could fit in.
The real meaning is: I want to go 200 mph but I also want a heated seat and a place to put my suitcase in.
Defining traits are the engine is in the front, the inside looks like a 5- star hotel and it is much quieter than a muscle car.
Examples: Bentley Continental GT, Aston Martin DB12
Here is your cheat sheet for your next argument against your dad
Muscle cars are a V8.Its loud, it’s cheap and it wants to go straight.
Supercar: It’s a scalpel (In the automotive world, calling a car a “scalpel” is a metaphor for precision and extreme mechanical focus.)It’s for the track and looking cool at the valet.(Valet parking is a service provided at a restaurant, airport, etc. where an attendant parks and retrieves patrons’ vehicles.)
Hypercar: It’s a rocket ship. It’s used for setting world records and being rich.
GT.(Grand tourer):It’s a private jet on wheels. Its for long road trips at high speeds.
If you could only pick one car to have in your garage forever what would it be?For me it would be the Apollo EVO because well..Just see for yourself.
Its my favorite car.
